The Light

I am not a big fan of going to the doctors unless the bright white light is calling me. I need to see the light for me to even think about going to the doctors. Mark is well aware of this. He rolls his eyes to the back of his mother's head and whisks me away for treatment. I cry and cry because I know my Dad and Jesus are calling me to the light, and I am torn as to whether to go with them, or, sit in an office waiting my turn to enter a room.

Wishes

We ain't got snow, or mistletoe, but we have castles made of wishes.

Behind Closed Doors

I am pretty anal when it comes to "closet" cleaning.  I am extremely particular about categorizing each and every shelf, cupboard, hanger, bin.  Crazy- you can trip on your way to the pantry, but when you open it- aah, perfection.  This is how I am with my fridge as well.  Each shelf has a specific purpose- specific.  Don't put drinks anywhere except the top shelf.  Don't put cheese anywhere except the top drawer, and so on.

St. Nicholas

Na świętego Mikołaja

Na świętego Mikołaja,
czeka dzieci cała zgraja,
Da posłusznym ciasteczko,
Złe przekropi różeczką.

On St. Nicholas Day

On St. Nicholas Day,
The band of children waits;
For the good cookie he brings,
But for the naughty a switch that stings.

Yogi Bear

I am so over being well informed of healthy habits and nutrition. Eat this, do that, sleep, move, read, flush. Information is useless unless you use it.

On Your Mark

The whirlwind of my baking sale is over... phew!  I did it and I succeeded!  Now it's time for the back to reality check of all that has been neglected the past few weeks.

Doctor, Doctor

A long, long time ago, my cousin Henry asked me to make him Minced Meat pie. Who in their right mind EATS minced meat pie?! I had never seen one, made one, heard of anyone eat one. Whatever. He asked, and by golly, he shall receive!

Leftovers

Those who are lucky enough to host Thanksgiving dinner enjoy the benefits of leftovers. Those of us who show up with tupperware are just as fortunate. This year, I left the plastic containers at home, and missed out on days upon days of creativity of turning disgarded turkey into a culinary wonder.

Greatful

Right now, I am on the countdown to my first ever cookie sale.  I have 3 days.  I have baked so much, and as of this moment, I am ready for the preparation of presentation.  Today, I shopped for decorations and trays.  Tomorrow, my friend Tina will be over to mock up the sales table.

Thy Daily Bread

Sometimes you just have to go against the grain. When it comes to bread, we enjoy Ezekiel for breakfast, toasted with pbj. Lunch would be the sandwich rolls that take lunchmeat to the hoagie level, and dinner is piping hot fresh "good bread".

Eisenia Fetida

Most families have cats, dogs, fish hanging out in the house.
We had the 90 gallon fish tank. We even had Shell Turtlestein for a while. We have the cat. We also have hiding in the laundry room, Sophie's science experiment gone multiple.
Worms.

Thanksgiving

Thank you, Lord, for our health and happiness;  our family and friends;  Mark getting to and from work safely.
Thank you Lord for all of your blessing to use for Your Will.  Receive our prayers.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Move Over, Big Guy

For all of this baking, I swear to you, I have not overindulged into a comatose state. I usually eat one from the batch, and make whoever is in the house try several to critique. Once devoured, I beg for detail feedback.

Itsie, Bitsie

My general rules for the kids bedrooms are:
1) In an emergency you can get out the door or window,
2) Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Santa will not get hurt,
3) When company comes, beautify for the occasion.
With these in place, I'm ok with closing the door.

The Journey

Ok, I am not doing very well with my Body, By God. I have been immersed in baking for a crowd and am forced to eat a cookie from every batch I make. No excuse, I am testing to make sure each recipe is worthy to sell.

This week is my husband's 45th birthday. I am so proud and happy to be able to share- for the 20th time- his special day!

Abracadabra

I am blown away each and every time I bake, by how these basic ingredients produce such delicious desserts! This picture has the list of items needed to make poppyseed bread.

Size Really Does Matter

There aren't too many gadgets nor appliances that require immediate replacement in my repertoire. I went 1 year without a microwave, 1 month without a can opener, 1 week without a dishwasher, 1 day without the washing machine. However, within 1 hour I replaced my cookie scoop.

Use-Move

These past few weeks I have been doing a lot of baking. I have a folder full of recipies, cookbooks opened, spreadsheets ready. My island is a sea of ingredients ready for the bake-a-thon. I have to be organized. To keep me on track I always put what's needed on the counter before starting, and remove it once it's used. Simple...

The Pits

Back in the 90's, I worked at Disney. As a "Lead Control Stocker", I was in charge of ordering and receiving merchandise for various locations throughout the parks.
Hard physical labor getting pallets and cages of souvenirs from outside into the stockrooms. One particular stockroom we had was a giant tin box- no insulation, no air conditioner, no fan. Talk about sweaty and stinky. The only deodorant that would take away the self consciousness was Mitchem. High test, tons of chemicals (25% aluminum), smelled like a man but who cared because it wasn't the stench of sweaty pits.

The Zone

Because I am gearing up for a sale in a couple of weeks, I have been baking cookies like a mad woman. Each day I have a goal for how many dozen I need to make to be on target for the amount I want to take with me. As of Friday, I was to be 75%. This is how I screwed up. I put too much pressure on myself. Sophie told me that I needed to relax and focus. Good advice from my 12 year old... and I took it. When you make a costly screw up like I did, it throws off your "mojo."

What now...

I am still learning how to create pages and postings, where I can add to instead of delete what I previously wrote.

Allergies

I was talking with a friend the other day and was blown away that that this is the first time since the kids started going to school, I have not had to pull out the medicinal arsenal for colds or allergies. We always battle the sniffles, ear aches, chest congestion- you name it, once school starts and throughout the school year.
Not including what I have upstairs...

E-Mealz

I am not a big fan of cooking nightly dinners. It took the four years working at the hospital to finally kick the 7 days a week habit of eating out. This is no exaggeration.

Dexter-esque

I am an Excel Spreadsheet junkie.  My life is broken down on a worksheet into tabs, in a workbook, documented under a file in my Debbie folder.

Molasses, Myasses

Molasses Crinkles
You've heard of the expression "Measure twice, cut once." This holds true to baking as well as construction.

Focus Techniques
